I don't believe in Creationism

I really wish people would not try and insist that the world is thousands of years old. It just doesn't work. I mean, how absurd is it that we could have come from Adam and Eve? I mean, look at all of humanity. Some are dark black, some are white, some are short and broad, some are tall and thin.

I just don't support this creationist nonsense. If we had all come gradually from some common ancestor (Adam and Eve), then you would expect to find intermediates: One man whose lower half was dark, and upper half white. Another, half Inuit, half Scandinavian. As with the Crocoduck, so with humanity.

It is clear that the world, and everyone in it, was created as we see it 5 minutes ago (looks at clock) sorry.. 6 minutes.

Fear of Fear of Flying Courses

I tried.  Well, a bit.  I was sceptical, but I got through the Blue-Peter-style enthusiastic hosts of the fear of flying course. It was going OK, with my confidence rising, until the hypnosis.

Political Doom?

Those of us of a certain age will have regularly watched the sitcom "Dad's Army", about the Home Guard in World War II.  One of the most well-known characters was Frazier, a soldier and undertaker.  Given even the most minor crisis, he would talk about the horrors of this situation and then declare "We're doomed!".

When I read the left-wing press about the current political situation, and the Labour party, Private Frazier comes to mind.  Labour is 10 points behind in the polls... there is some criticism of Gordon Brown... there is some scandal regarding an adviser and e-mails, and... "We're doomed!"

I have been watching politics for a very long time, since a young teenager in the early 70s.  I know this is all nonsense.  No individual scandal brings down a government, and being way behind in the polls a year before an election has to be held is perfectly normal.  Just consider the number of times that the Thatcher government was written off during the 1980s.  Bill Clinton got it mostly right.. "It's the economy".  In a year, things will have changed, economically.  Brown and his allies will have had international support for their policies.  Even if things have not recovered, their strategy will be in line with those of most other governments of the G20.  What is the Tory opposition supposed to say?  That they disagree with Obama, with the USA?

There is much to disagree with about the policies of this government, but it is economics that usually decides elections.  There is no reason to think that a left-wing government of some sort (even if it is a coalition) won't be in power in 2011.

Red Rag to a Bull in a China Shop

"Cameron furious at e-mail slurs" reports the BBC.  But that isn't the real issue.  That isn't the real story that the media should be concerned about.

Planet of the Dead

Good story, some interesting characters (the psychic woman worked well), even Lee Evans was not bad as the eccentric scientist.  Really enjoyable.  Some interesting insight about UNIT's ambiguous views about the Doctor.  Apart from Michelle Ryan.  She was a dead space.  There was no real emotion.  No acting.  She behaved like being on a different planet was no more shocking than a change of breakfast cereal.  It highlighted how good previous companions were.  Even the comedienne Catherine Tate showed real emotional range.

The next episode includes the wonderful Linday Duncan.  Thank goodness.
