      A few do get picked up though. There has been a huge brouhaha over at Jerry Coyne&#039;s http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com and several of the people expressed how there formerly were creationists. I don&#039;t think many are converted from one talk or blog but seeds seem to get planted.

      I have a feeling that this fear of getting the central tenets of faith drawn out from under their feet is what drives even the most moderate believers to tell atheists to keep quiet please, or shut up altogether. It&#039;s not so much a fear of not believing, it&#039;s a fear of admitting that years, often decades of holding a world view were misguided. The fear of leaving a comfort zone is much greater than the fear of stepping on new ground, of entering new realms of thought.
